Alleged Drunk Driver Kills 4 people & Injures 8

Thursdays were just another typical morning for Las Vegas commuters to take the bus to head to school and to work. However, Thursday Sept 13, 2012 was slightly different. A man by the name of Gary Lee Hosey Jr. plowed into a Las Vegas bus stop at the corner of Spring Mountain and Decatur, killing 4 people instantly and injuring 8 that were rushed to a local hospital. Hosey was allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incidentand has been charged with four felony counts of DUI in Las Vegas.

What would happen to Hosey if this occurred in Washington State?

When it comes to DUI, Washington State has some of the most harsh and unforgiving laws that provide mandatory punishment. While DUI plays a major role in why this incident occurred, there are other factors that need to be addresses such as he killed 4 people and injured 8 including friends that were in the car with him. The other charges Hosey would possibly face in Washington State include:

  • Vehicular homicide
  • Reckless driving
  • Negligent driving If convicted of any of these charges, Hosey can face:
  • Life in prison
  • Expensive fines and fees up to $ 50,000
  • License revocation

Facing a Felony DUI charge that involves death can be quite scary. Many feel that Hosey should rot in jail and get the strictest punishment as possible for ending the life and injuring innocent people who were just trying to make a living. However, Hosey is a U.S. Citizen and he has a right to a speedy trial and a right to attorney to help him fight for his rights.

It’s most likely that the State prosecutors will try to convict him and give him the strictest punishment possible. Therefore, it would be in his best interest to seek a lawyer who handles cases like these. A DUI attorney will most likely negotiate fair resolutions on his behalf and aggressively fight to reduce his charge to something less severe like vehicular manslaughter.
