  • First Degree – Assault with a firearm or deadly weapon, either with the intent to do great bodily harm or death or with the result of great bodily harm. A Class A Washington felony, punishable by as much as life in prison.
  • Second Degree – Intentionally assaulting and causing substantial bodily harm, assault with a deadly weapon, assault upon a pregnant mother resulting in harm to the fetus, assault while attempting to commit a felony and assault by strangulation. A Class B felony, carrying a maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison and a fine of $20,000.
  • Third Degree – Assault while resisting arrest, causing bodily harm to another through negligent use of a weapon, assault upon a nurse, doctor or police officer. A Class C felony, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment and $10,000 fine.
  • Fourth Degree – Any assault less serious than the other degrees. A gross misdemeanor, resulting in up to a year in county jail and a $5,000 fine.
